Maramais also known as Geukdong-Ph is a good forage for rabbits, cattle, pigs etc. Maramais grass has a high protein content of 13.9 percent. This is higher than most other forage grasses. it is a fast growing grass that produces a lot of biomass.
How to sow/plant seeds:
To plant maramais (likely referring to okra) seeds in the Philippines, prepare the land, soak the seeds overnight, plant them in slightly moist soil, and cover them lightly with soil.
1. Land Preparation:
Clear the area: Ensure the field is free of weeds and debris.
Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and ensure good drainage.
2. Seed Preparation: Soak the seeds: Soak the maramais seeds in water for 8 to 12 hours (overnight) before planting to promote faster germination.
3. Planting: Plant directly in the field:
Okra is commonly planted directly in the field.
Planting depth: Plant the seeds in slightly moist soil at a depth of 2-5 cm (about 1 inch).
Spacing: Plant 2-3 seeds per hill at a distance of 30 cm (about 1 foot) between hills.
Cover lightly: After planting, lightly cover the seeds with soil, ensuring not to cover them too deeply, as this can cause them to rot.
4. Post-Planting Care:
Watering: Water the newly planted seeds gently, especially after planting and during dry periods.
Weed control: Regularly remove weeds to ensure the young plants have enough resources.
Fertilization: You can apply animal manure or urea as a natural fertilizer.
