Product description
Vegetable Seeds Sili Panigang Seeds
Prepare the Soil: Long chilies prefer well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Amend the soil with compost or well-rotted manure to improve fertility and texture. Aim for a slightly acidic to neutral pH level between 6.0 and 7.0.
Germination: Long chilies can be started from seeds indoors or directly sown into the garden after the last frost date in your area. If starting indoors, plant the seeds in small pots or trays filled with seed-starting mix. Keep the soil moist and warm (around 70-80°F or 21-27°C) for optimal germination.
Transplanting: If you started the seeds indoors, transplant the seedlings outdoors once they have developed several sets of true leaves and all risk of frost has passed. Space the seedlings 18-24 inches apart in rows that are 24-36 inches apart.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the flowering and fruiting stages. Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on weather conditions and soil moisture levels. Mulching around the plants can help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
Fertilization: Long chilies are heavy feeders and benefit from regular fertilization. Apply a balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) or a fertilizer formulated for vegetables according to the package instructions. Side-dress the plants with fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
Support: Some long chili varieties may benefit from staking or support cages to keep the plants upright as they grow and produce fruit. Install stakes or cages at the time of planting to avoid damaging the roots later on.
Pest and Disease Management: Monitor the plants regularly for common pests like aphids, spider mites, and pepper maggots. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil to control pest infestations if necessary. Practice crop rotation and good garden hygiene to minimize the risk of disease.
Harvesting: Long chilies can be harvested when they reach the desired size and color. Most varieties mature from green to red, yellow, or orange as they ripen. Use scissors or pruners to cut the chilies from the plants, leaving a short stem attached.
