How to Plant?

Choose the right location: Pechay thrives in well-draining soil with plenty of sunlight. Choose a location in your garden that receives at least 4-6 hours of sunlight per day.

Prepare the soil: Ensure the soil is loose, fertile, and rich in organic matter. You can amend the soil with compost or well-aged manure to improve its texture and nutrient content.

Sow the seeds: Plant the pechay seeds directly into the soil. Make shallow furrows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, spaced about 6-8 inches apart. Place the seeds about 1 inch apart in the furrows.

Cover and water: Gently cover the seeds with soil and water them thoroughly. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Pechay prefers consistent moisture throughout its growing period.

Thin the seedlings: Once the seedlings emerge and grow a few inches tall, thin them out to maintain proper spacing. Leave about 6-8 inches between each plant to ensure they have enough room to grow.

Fertilize: Apply a balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) when the seedlings are about 3-4 weeks old. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer package for application rates.

Mulch: Mulching around the pechay plants can help retain moisture in the soil, suppress weed growth, and regulate soil temperature.

Monitor for pests and diseases: Keep an eye out for common pests like aphids, cabbage worms, and slugs, as well as diseases like clubroot and downy mildew. Promptly address any issues to prevent them from spreading.

Harvest: Pechay typically matures within 30-45 days after planting. You can harvest the entire plant when it reaches a desirable size, or you can harvest individual outer leaves as needed, allowing the inner leaves to continue growing.
