Product description
Lollo Rosa / Red Lettuce Seeds
How to plant?
Choose the right location: Red lettuce thrives in cool weather and partial shade. Select a location in your garden that receives partial sunlight, especially during the hottest part of the day. If you're planting in containers, place them where they'll receive morning sun and afternoon shade.
Prepare the soil: Red lettuce prefers well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Work compost or well-rotted manure into the soil to improve its fertility and texture. Aim for soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
Sow the seeds: Plant red lettuce seeds directly into the soil or containers. Make shallow furrows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and space them about 6-8 inches apart. Scatter the seeds thinly along the furrows and cover them lightly with soil.
Water thoroughly: After planting, water the soil thoroughly to ensure good seed-to-soil contact and to initiate germination. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged throughout the growing season.
Thin the seedlings: Once the seedlings emerge and develop their first true leaves, thin them out to maintain proper spacing. Leave about 6-8 inches between each plant to allow for proper growth.
Fertilize: Apply a balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) when the seedlings are about 3-4 weeks old. Follow the instructions on the fertilizer package for application rates.
Mulch: Mulching around the lettuce plants can help retain moisture in the soil, suppress weed growth, and regulate soil temperature.
Monitor for pests and diseases: Keep an eye out for common pests like aphids, slugs, and snails, as well as diseases like lettuce downy mildew and lettuce leaf spot. Address any issues promptly to prevent them from spreading.
Harvest: Red lettuce can be harvested once the leaves reach a desirable size. You can harvest the entire plant by cutting it off at the base or harvest individual leaves as needed, allowing the plant to continue producing throughout the season.
