Product description
Iceberg Lettuce Seeds
How to plant?
Prepare the Soil: Loosen the soil to a depth of about 8 to 12 inches. Remove any weeds or debris from the area. Incorporate organic matter like compost or aged manure to improve soil fertility and drainage.
Sow Seeds or Transplant Seedlings: You can start iceberg lettuce from seeds or seedlings. If sowing seeds directly, plant them about 1/4 inch deep and space them 8 to 12 inches apart in rows that are 12 to 18 inches apart. If using seedlings, transplant them into the prepared soil at the same spacing.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Iceberg lettuce prefers evenly moist soil. Water deeply whenever the top inch of soil feels dry.
Fertilization: Iceberg lettuce benefits from a balanced fertilizer applied according to package instructions. You can apply a water-soluble fertilizer once or twice during the growing season.
Thinning: If you planted from seeds, thin the seedlings once they reach a few inches tall, leaving the strongest ones spaced according to the recommendations above.
Mulching: Mulching around the plants can help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and keep the soil temperature more consistent.
Pest and Disease Management: Keep an eye out for common pests like aphids, slugs, and snails. Regularly inspect your plants for signs of disease, such as leaf discoloration or wilting. Promptly remove any affected leaves or plants to prevent the spread of disease.
Harvesting: Iceberg lettuce typically matures in 70 to 90 days after planting. You can harvest the entire head by cutting it at the base with a sharp knife. Alternatively, you can harvest individual leaves as needed, allowing the plant to continue producing.
