2. Watering method for bougainvillea planting
Bougainvillea has a large demand for water, especially in the summer season. Water shortage can easily cause leaf fall, which affects growth and flowering. Therefore, water twice a day during the flowering period in summer, spray water in the morning, and water once after 4 pm; Watering can be appropriately reduced after the flowers wither. If the soil is too wet, it will cause fallen leaves and rotten roots. Control watering in winter and The soil in the pot is dry, then water it.However, water should be deducted 4 to 5 weeks before the bougainvillea blooms, that is, after watering once, water after the leaves or buds are drooping, which is conducive to the differentiation and formation of flower buds.
3. Fertilization method for bougainvillea planting
Bougainvillea likes fertilizer. After the weather becomes warm in spring, nitrogen fertilizer is applied every 10-15 days, cake fertilizer water is applied once a week during the growth period, and phosphorus fertilizer is applied several times during the flowering period. Reduce the amount of fertilization after the autumn is cool, and stop fertilizing in winter. During the peak season of growth and flowering, spray 1000 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution 2 to 3 times on the leaves, or topdressing 1000 times "Flower Duoduo" universal fertilizer once every 10 days.
Bougainvillea is very sensitive to urea, if improper fertilization, it may produce luxuriant branches and foliage but less blooming, so be careful when applying urea.
The vegetative growth period of Bougainvillea is after the flowers wither in spring, urea can be applied once every 1 week. This can not only supplement the consumption of plants after flowering, but also promote the growth of new branches, laying a good foundation for reproductive growth.
Some liquid fertilizers should be applied thinly in summer. If conditions permit, 0.2% to 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution can be used as foliar topdressing once every half month. In the early stage of flowering branch growth, urea still needs to be applied once, which can promote the growth of flowering branches.
4. Sunlight and temperature requirements for Bougainvillea planting
The suitable temperature for the growth of Bougainvillea is 15-30℃, and the temperature in winter is below 5℃ and it is easy to be frozen and fallen leaves.
Bougainvillea likes sunlight. Insufficient sunlight during the growing season will lead to weak plant growth and affect flowering. It should be placed in a bright place in winter, and the sunlight should not be less than 8 hours a day, otherwise a lot of fallen leaves will easily appear.
5. Precautions for Bougainvillea Planting
(1) Bougainvillea is a sunlight-loving plant. Both potted and ground plantingshould have sufficient sunlight. Plants treated with strong sunlight will have short internodes of branches, full growth, a large amount of flowers, deep flower colors and long flowering period. Insufficient sunlight causes weak growth of new branches, dim leaf color, and little or no flowering.
(2) Bougainvillea bonsai mostly use rectangular or oval purple clay pots or glazed pots, the color should not be too deep, so that it can set off the gorgeous color of the bougainvillea bracts. The potting soil should be equipped with nutrient soil rich in humus, loose and well-drained, and potting should be carried out when the temperature in spring is relatively stable.
6. Pruning method for bougainvillea planting
Bougainvillea has many fallen leaves and fallen flowers during the flowering period, and it needs to be reshaped and pruned after flowering. Bougainvillea planting in pots are often cut into round crowns or tied shapes, requiring many branches and dense blooms to form a gorgeous crown. Bougainvillea planting on the ground needs to set up a support to make it climb on the shelf. The new branches should be topped frequently. After changing the pots, pruning some dense branches, long branches, dead branches, and diseased branches to promote more new branches. From July to August, topping is carried out to control the growth, promote the formation of flower buds and bloom vigorously. Plants that are 5 to 6 years old need to be cut short or re-cut and renewed once.
