•Timing: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, or plant seedlings outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.
•Location: Choose a spot with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
•Soil: Tomatoes thrive in well-drained, slightly acidic soil (pH 6.2-6.5). Amend heavy clay soil with compost or other organic matter.
•Planting:Space plants 18-24 inches apart.
•Cover seeds with about 1/4 inch of soil.
•When planting seedlings, bury the stem deeply, up to the first set of leaves, to encourage more root growth.
