HOW TO PLANT MUSTARD HEADING TYPE
1. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Mustard plants prefer full sun, but they can tolerate some shade. The soil should be loose and friable, with a pH of 6.0 to 6.8.
2. Prepare the soil by adding compost or other organic matter. This will help to improve drainage and fertility.
3. Sow the seeds 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep and 2 to 3 inches apart. You can sow the seeds directly in the ground or start them indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost.
4. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Mustard plants need regular water, especially during hot weather.
5. Thin the seedlings to 6 to 8 inches apart once they are 2 to 3 inches tall.
6. Fertilize the plants every 4 to 6 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
7. Harvest the leaves when they are 4 to 6 inches long. You can harvest the leaves repeatedly, or you can wait until the plant forms a head and harvest the entire plant.
