Although cherry tomatoes are small, they are very easy to grow, can be planted multiple times a year, and yield plenty of fruit.
Tomato plants can thrive anywhere. With just a bit of attention to planting techniques, growers can achieve the desired results.
Cherry tomatoes are small fruits, either round or elongated, with a beautiful red color. They have a tart but sweeter taste compared to regular tomatoes.
Additionally, cherry tomato plants can be grown in pots, providing both fruit and decorative value for balconies or garden porches.
🌿Cherry Tomato Growing Season:
Growth period is about 90-100 days, allowing for four planting seasons per year: spring-summer (March-April), early season (August), main season (October), and late season (November).
Seeds can be sown in pots, foam trays, or seedbeds, then transplanted after 20-22 days when the seedlings have 3-5 strong leaves and are free of pests and diseases.
Sowing Techniques for Cherry Tomato Seeds:
Before sowing, soak seeds in warm water with a 2:3 ratio of boiling to cold water overnight. Then sow directly into the soil, cover with a thin layer of soil, and keep the soil moist daily.
When seedlings have 4-5 true leaves, are 10-12 cm tall, healthy, and have sturdy stems, they can be transplanted into pots.
Choose pots that are 20-25 cm high and at least 30 cm wide.
Select light sandy soil, rich in organic matter, loose, well-drained, with a pH of 6.2-6.8. Add plenty of well-decomposed organic compost, approximately 6-8 cm thick.
Cherry tomato plants develop roots along the stem, so they can be planted deep in the soil, leaving only the young leaves above ground.
Avoid covering any leaves with soil to prevent rot and disease.
After 30 days, apply a mixture of Tribat fertilizer with superphosphate and urea.
Prune the plant as it grows: remove side shoots and old leaves to keep the plant airy.
Keep only one main stem and two first-level branches below the first flower cluster to promote more branches, flowers, and multiple fruit sets.
Ensure adequate watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
Regularly check for pests and diseases and take timely measures to control them.
Wishing you success in growing vegetables!
