ANONANG  Cordia dichotoma G. Forst.  Boraginaceae  Description:  Smooth and deciduous, anonang  grows 5-10 m high. The leaves are  alternate, ovate to oblong-ovate or  elliptic-ovate with entire or somewhat  undulate margins, pointed tip and  somewhat rounded or heart-shaped  base. The flowers are stalkless, white  or yellowish-white and borne in lax  inflorescences. The fruit (drupe) is  yellowish-white or pinkish, ovoid with  rather scenty pulp and a hard stone.  Uses:  • The bark, moistened, is applied externally on boils and tumors to hasten ripening. It  is used for headaches and stomachaches.  • A decoction of the bark is used as an antidyspeptic and a febrifuge. It is also given  for dysentery and fever.  • In powder form, the bark is used as a cure for ulcers in the mouth. The bark, in  infusion, is used as a gargle.  • The juice obtained from the bark, if administered in coconut milk, relieves severe  colicky pains.  • The fresh fruit is used as a laxative and pectoral. It is also used for gonorrhea.  • The dried fruit is used as an expectorant.  • The kernels, powdered and mixed with oil, are a good remedy for ringworm.
