Palapa is a condiment native to Marawi City and other parts of Lanao del Sur in the Philippines. It's a traditional Maranao dish made from sakurab (native scallions), ginger, chilies, and sometimes turmeric, all finely chopped and sautΓ©ed in oil. It's known for its distinct, spicy flavor and is often used to enhance the taste of various dishes, particularly those with a Maranao origin. Palapa is not only popular for its taste but also for itsΒ cultural significance in Maranao cuisine.

Palapa sa Lumba is a livelihood project that harnesses mothers and out-of-school youth to build a business around palapa-making. From backyard farming for spices and ingredients, to the actual preparation, cooking and marketing of the product, everything is community-led.
