Its use in cats and dogs to treat bacterial infections in the eye and glaucoma is sometimes “off label” or “extra label”. Many drugs are commonly prescribed for off-label use in veterinary medicine. In these instances, follow your veterinarian’s directions and cautions very carefully as their directions may be significantly different from those on the label.
Gentamicin is applied directly to the eye to treat infections.
Do not touch the tip of the bottle or tube to the eye or any other surface.
Do not apply this medication within 5 minutes of administering another medication in the eye.
Keep the cap tightly closed when not using the medication. This medication will take effect quickly, in about 1 to 2 hours, but outward effects may take a few days to be recognized.
