It is mainly absorbed by the emerging shoot (coleoptile) of the weed and must be present in the top soil layer as the weeds germinate and the coleoptile passes through the treated soil to control susceptible germinating seedlings before or soon after they emerge. Frontier-P is most effective when incorporated by rainfall before weeds germinate. Reduced weed control may occur if there is insufficient soil surface moisture.
