•Prepare your workspace
•Cover a work surface with drop cloth and wear rubber gloves to protect your skin
•Choose your dye
•For synthetic fabrics like polyester, use a dye made for synthetics. For natural fabrics like cotton or linen, you can add salt to the dye bath to help the fabric absorb the dye. For wool or silk, you can add white vinegar.
•Prepare the fabric
•Wash new fabric items before dyeing.
•Prepare the dye bath
•Fill a large bucket or sink halfway with hot water that's at least 140°F. Add the dye and stir well. You can test the color by dipping a paper towel into the dye bath.
•Dye the fabric
•Wet the fabric and immerse it in the dye bath. Stir continuously for the first 10 minutes to ensure even color. The fabric will look darker while it's wet. You can leave the fabric in the dye bath for 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the fabric and desired color.
•Rinse and wash
•Rinse the fabric in warm water, then gradually transition to cooler water until the rinse water runs clear. Wash the fabric in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse, and dry
