Product description

Halamanin's Akadama is a traditional Japanese gardening material that is widely used in bonsai cultivation and other forms of container gardening. It is a type of volcanic clay soil that is highly prized for its unique properties and suitability for plant growth. Akadama is known for its excellent water retention capabilities. The porous structure of the clay particles allows them to absorb and retain water while still providing good drainage. This helps to create a well-balanced moisture environment for plants, preventing both overwatering and underwatering. Akadama also promotes good aeration in the root zone. The porous nature of the clay particles allows for the exchange of gases, ensuring that plant roots receive an adequate oxygen supply. This promotes healthy root development and overall plant vigor. Akadama is often used as a component in bonsai soil mixes and is particularly favored for its ability to hold its shape and provide stability to the plants. Its granular texture allows for proper root penetration and helps anchor the bonsai tree or other container plants securely in the pot. One important characteristic of akadama is that it breaks down over time. As the clay particles gradually decompose, they release minerals into the soil, enriching it with essential nutrients. This natural fertilization process contributes to the long-term health and vitality of the plants. It's worth noting that akadama has a neutral pH, which makes it suitable for a wide range of plants. However, it is primarily used in gardening applications that require well-draining soil, such as bonsai, succulents, and other plants that prefer drier conditions.
In using Akadama, mix 20% of Akadama with 20% of coarse sand and add 30% of pumice. Rest you can fill up with potting soil, pebbles, volcanic rocks, and gravels. The compositions shown above are only our recommendation, as there is no one particular recipe, try to experiment with the ingredients. The end goal is to provide them with a soil which is fairly nutrient-rich and is highly drainage friendly. *Weight and volume may slightly change during delivery due to exposure to temperature changes.
